CWM 2016 Assembly – A Call for Expressions of interest to be a delegate

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

CWM 2016 Assembly – A Call for Expressions of interest to be a delegate

The Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand is a member of the Council for World Mission. CWM will be holding its 5th Assembly 19 – 23 June 2016 in South Korea. It will be hosted by the Presbyterian Church of Korea, and will carry the theme “Healing: Hope in Action”. The Assembly willprovide delegates with the opportunity to: worship, study and reflect together; appoint the CWM

Directors to serve for the next period of its journey; network and fellowship with each other within the CWM partnership of churches and the wider ecumenical community and receive an update on the work of CWM.

The full costs of travel and accommodation to the Assembly plus any pre Assembly meeting for Pacific region delegates are covered by CWM. All delegates must be available to attend both the Assembly and any pre Assembly Pacific gathering which will brief people on the running of the Assembly etc. Please note that no date/s have been set for a pre-assembly gathering at this time.

The Presbyterian Church can appoint four delegates, and to comply with CWM guidelines the group must include at least one woman, one youth, and one lay person.

The Directors for the next period of the CWM journey will be elected at this Assembly. It is also important that each person from the PCANZ has the competencies, commitment, and availability to serve as a director for a period of four years if elected. Please refer to the Job Description and Code of Conduct documents.

There are many far-reaching matters to be addressed by the Board of Directors, requiring Directors who will be able to commit the time, energy and mind to the task. CWM is asking all member churches to choose people who will provide forthright and faithful leadership for a time such as this.

The Council of Assembly is asking for expressions of interest from people who would like to be considered to represent the Presbyterian Church at this important gathering. As you could be elected to serve as a Director, the Council wants to ensure CWM of a robust process and that all people who go have a confidence of the church.

Please share this information and the two other attachments as widely as possible. To assist in discerning suitable people, CWM advises:

  • The group from the PCANZ must include at least one woman, youth and lay-person (youth will be invited to the pre-Assembly Youth event)
  • Each delegate has spiritual, intellectual and emotional maturity to serve as Director if so elected able to serve for 4 years if elected as Director, and able to attend global meetings
  • Each delegate must be in good health and able to travel alone
  • Each delegate must meet the Job Description criteria attached

In order to meet CWM requirements and timetable, you are invited to write expressing your interest and include a detailed bio and have this to the AES no later than 20 September 2015. No late applications can be considered. Your expression of interest must also include full passport details; Passport nationality; full contact details including email.

If you have any questions, please contact me directly.

All applications will be considered and a group selected that fulfil the CWM requirements. All who express an interest will be advised if they have been selected by 2 October 2015.

Thanking you kindly for your support and wishing you every blessing.

Yours in Christ’s service
