Wellington Boys’ and Girls’ Institute (BGI)
25 to 40 hours per week, negotiable
BGI is contracted by St. John’s Presbyterian church to run junior and senior youth groups. Working together presents an exciting and unique opportunity to work both with the church and the community.
BGI is a not-for-profit Christian organisation that was established by young people from St. John’s Church in 1883. Our close and dynamic team members support each other to run a number of core programmes that sit along a ‘continuum of need’ from early intervention through to innovative youth leadership. This strengths-based model underscores our firm belief in the ability of young people to actively participate in healthy youth development.
We are seeking an experienced youth ministry worker, primarily to coordinate our senior (high school age) youth group. It has a primary focus on building relationships with and supporting about 80 young people their families from a wide variety of backgrounds. The structured aspect of the programme is planning and facilitating an Inner City Friday evening programme that is interesting, fun and welcoming for any young person in Wellington. Other aspects of the role involve supporting other BGI mentoring programmes, Sunday morning teaching and trips away.
The successful candidate will be passionate about, and experienced in, working with this age group. They will hold or be studying towards recognised youth work and theology qualifications. They will also be well organised, and a good team player. Good remuneration for the right person.
