About

John Knox Presbyterian: JKP is a friendly church that welcomes all ages. We have about 150 households under our pastoral care with an active partnership with Presbyterian Support, whose Support, whose whose facilities occupy the same site. Our Sunday Worship service is a blend of the traditional and contemporary. Our Friday Evening service, (T.G.I.F.) has a youth bias with a community meal beforehand. Our youth (2:42 for year 9-13 and Cornerstone for year 7-8) meet together after the service with a mixture of socials, activities and a devotional input.

The Opportunity:

is to work with youth as well as to develop, lead and mentor a team of volunteer youth
leaders to create a Christ centred ministry at John Knox. A ministry in which:
– youth grow in their faith with Christ,
– grow in their relationship as a faith community,
– and grow in their capacity to serve and transform their community.

HOURS:

20 hours per week (This is 20 hours specifically in the context of John Knox Presbyterian with the potential of 10 hours working through 24-7 YouthWork at Rangiora High.)

The Role Includes:

• Leading and running Youth programmes on Friday evening and events throughout the term.
• Pastorally caring for youth at JKP, mentoring and developing the Christian potential in each
young person at JKP.
• Being part of a team responsible for the T.G.I.F. service on Friday Evenings.
• Connecting the youth into the wider church family at JKP
• Connecting the youth into the wider community with specific attention into Rangiora High
through 24-7 YouthWork.

What you bring to the role:

• A passion for Youth and proven experience in youth ministry.
• A strong desire to see the God-given potential of every young person lived out to the max.
• A strong faith and commitment to God’s Church.
• A hunger to see the church reach out into the schools and wider community

PT Youth Worker Position- Napier

Napier-North Presbyterian Church, (Ahuriri-Putorino Parish)

We are looking for a part-time youth worker to assist with and help develop our ministry to children and teenagers.

Youth mentoring. Currently, we have 3 high school aged boys associated with the church. The youth mentor will spend time with these boys, doing varied activities, but more importantly building trustful relationships in which they are able to explore faith.

K’nect @ Knox: We have a family-focused outreach on the first Sunday of the month, held in the Church hall.  The service aims to be accessible to those with limited experience of Church or Christianity.  The youth mentor will be a key member of the small team which is responsible for planning and running the K’nect services.

Sunday morning programme: We have a small but active kid’s church on Sunday mornings running within and alongside our morning service. Our youth worker may be involved in assisting with this programme.  He/she will be expected to be at Sunday morning worship.

Visiting: spending time outside of the formal programme

Skills: the person we are looking for will have:

  • an evangelical understanding of the Christian faith, and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, being nurtured by personal Bible study and prayer;
  • Experience working with young people in a church setting.
  • initiative and the ability to work independently, but also to be accountable and willing to serve as a member of a team; and
  • a commitment to becoming an active member of our Church.
  • Preferably a Full drivers licence.

Regional communications correspondent required – must be able to travel overseas

Are you a young adult member of a Presbyterian or Uniting church with working experience in communications or a degree in journalism and/or communications?

The PCANZ is assisting one of our international church partner organisations to find a suitably experienced person to act as their regional communications correspondent.

You will be required to attend our church partner’s events within the Pacific region, and possible further afield, and write short articles on, and take images of, these events. The church partner will use these in their worldwide communications.

You must be able to attend a communications training event in Singapore in late August 2017.

This is not a paid role.  The church partner will cover the cost of flights and accommodation and will discuss what expenses will be covered.

Qualifications and skills – you must have some of these:

  • Ability to write to a high standard with good grammar. Preferably have a journalism degree or are studying towards one.
  • Experience working in the field of communications or PR and/or a communications degree or studying towards one.
  • Ability to take well-framed, hi res photographs.
  • Design skills.

Essential:

  • Flexibility and availability to fly to events in NZ and other countries, sometimes at short notice.
  • Able to attend a communications training event in Singapore in late August 2017 for approx. four to five days.

Christian Youth Camps Waihola (or CYC Waihola) is a Christian camp located at Lake Waihola in South Otago and is passionate about sharing who Jesus is with young people and advancing the Kingdom of God though camping. People who love God and want to share their faith are the key to this mission.

We have a full-time paid position for a Ministry Coordinator at CYC Waihola whose primary role will be to head up the Ministry side of the CYC Waihola organisation and to support the current Operations Manager in the day to day running of the camp-site.

The CYC Waihola ministry is diverse but the main tasks will be:

  • facilitating the many diverse holiday camps for children and teenagers we run
  • developing the potential of young Christians through leadership at these holiday camps and other leadership events
  • promotion and networking of our holiday camps to schools, churches and other social agencies

The role will also include from time to time:

  • rostered hosting of our on-site accommodation groups and ensuring their safety and that their expectations are being met.
  • various other camp tasks including housekeeping, kitchen and maintenance.

We are looking for applicants who have a sense of God’s call on them, a strong and vibrant faith and who will be compatible with CYC Waihola’s mission and objectives.

Ideally the applicant will:

  • Be physically fit
  • Be a team player
  • Be self-motivated and able to work alone on tasks
  • Have good administration skills and the ability to pick up new computer systems quickly
  • Have a good artistic and design flare
  • Be an excellent leader with good communication skills
  • Be mature, responsible and able to stay calm in emergencies
  • Be good at dealing with all types of people and able to work as part of a team
  • Be confident in their own abilities and able to inspire confidence in others
  • Be able to demonstrate a positive and responsible attitude in all circumstances
  • Have achieved a qualification in outdoor recreation and/or youth work and/or have the relevant experience

Mornington Presbyterian Church, Dunedin, is seeking a part time youth leader (10 hours)

The goal of the position is to actively help intermediate and high school age young people to become mature followers of Jesus Christ.

This will be done through:

  1. Build strong relationships with the young people to enable discipling and pastoral care.
  2. Provide opportunities for young people come to faith in Jesus.
  3. Provide opportunities for young people to grow towards Christian maturity.
  4. Develop a team of leaders and volunteers.
  5. Build links with the families of the young people (in conjunction with other ministries in the church)
