PT Vacancy, national Children and Families position




The Presbyterian Children and Families Ministry exists to see communities of faith inspired to share God’s big story by engaging authentically with children and families. We are currently advertising for an Associate Children and Families Director (0.5FTE) who will join the team in:
  • Leading the PCANZ into authentic engagement with children and families.
  • Advocating for children and families so that they are woven into the fabric/DNA of the church and have authentic participation.
  • Encouraging, equipping and supporting church leaders and those who work with children and families.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and maintain the ministry that reaches children and families in the PCANZ.
  • Collaborate and help lead relevant national special projects as determined by the PCANZ.
  • Support regional children and families enablers.
  • Advocate for churches to be engaging and discipling children and families.
  • Encourage, equip and support children of the PCANZ in their faith and to use their gifts to minister to others.
  • Encourage, equip and support parents and caregivers of the PCANZ to role model faith, to teach faith at home, engage in faith forming activities and take responsibility for the discipleship of their children.
  • Ensure there is adequate training and resourcing for families as well as church members to support the discipleship of children and young people.
  • Provide advice to children and families ministry leaders, parishes, presbyteries and PCANZ team members on children and families ministry.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will have:
  • Work history preferably within a religious context
  • A demonstrable work history in children and families ministry, preferably including experience in ministry resourcing and leadership development.
  • Membership in a Christian Church and would naturally be supportive and identify with the mission and ministry of the Presbyterian Church.
  • Experience working across cultural diversity.
  • Professional credibility to inspire confidence, together with a proven ability to provide high quality work within deadlines and timeframes; a strong calibre of leadership, a focus on collaboration, support and communication.


  • Be based in a major centre in New Zealand.

Part time Youth Ministry on the South Coast Wellington

Do you have a heart for what God can do among youth, and among those at the edges of society? Island Bay Presbyterian has a joint Youth Pastor/Youth Work position for 14-16 hours a week working in with a team of staff and volunteers to disciple our church youth, but with the main focus on being part of our community development project in local supported housing complexes. We are seeking someone who can work alone and with others, who can plan activities and relate well to teens and tweens, who can be a regular presence in our faith community, and who is comfortable with people of different cultures and backgrounds. Part Time job: Hamilton

Chartwell Cooperating Church, Hamilton, is seeking a part-time Youth Worker for our
busy, dynamic church. The successful applicant will work with the Youth and Family
Coordinator as part of a larger ministry team. The youth worker position aims to
sustain and develop work amongst our youth and enable ministry and mission to take
place within the Chartwell Cooperating Church parish.
Hours of work: 10 hours per week. This is a fixed-term contract for six months, owing
to funding availability, with the expectation of a renewed contract as funding
becomes available.
We are looking for a YOUTH WORKER who:
✓ Can support and lead activities and events that build community
✓ Explore opportunities to develop our youth ministry
✓ Maintain and grow online presence for youth in Church
✓ Manage the necessary resources for the programmes

St. Barnabas Church (Plimmerton Presbyterian Parish) is looking for a full-time staff member to focus on two specific and related areas of ministry on a 50/50 basis of time allocation, namely:

  • to actively lead, encourage and develop all aspects of Christian life with and for youth and their families/whanau in alignment with the St Barnabas mission plan; and
  • to be actively engaged with and in the community of northern Porirua, providing care, compassion and support to youth and their families/whanau through the Schools, sports clubs and other locations where youth gather.

PT Youth & Community Worker wanted – Waitara

At Knox Presbyterian Church Waitara, we want to help people find and follow Jesus. As part of this mission, we are seeking a half-time staff member who will work primarily in the area of youth. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing, empowering and equipping teams
  • Having oversight of youth and community related programs
  • Contributing to the intergenerational vision of our church

PT Wellington Youth Ministry Facilitator

Presbytery Central is seeking a Wellington Region Youth Ministry Facilitator to join the Presbytery Youth Ministry Team.

This 16 hour a week position

The successful applicants will be part of a team of Regional Youth Ministry Facilitators charged with creating and developing an environment where youth leaders in the Presbytery are nurtured, supported and assisted to build healthy youth ministries, which offer young people the opportunity to grow their faith in God. Part of the role is also to encourage and assist the development of new youth ministries in the Presbytery.

The applicant will already have:

  • An awareness of, and be committed to the mission of Presbyterian and Uniting churches.
  • A strong background in Christian youth work.
  • A facilitative style of leadership.
  • A community builder and a team player.
  • Good organisational, administrative and time management skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.

.          An ability to self-start and show initiative.

These are roles that requires some travel and a passion to see youth ministry flourish in Presbytery Central.
